Whitening

Teeth whitening can be a great way to brighten your smile and boost confidence, but not every whitening product or method is the right fit for every person. Sensitivity, existing dental work, enamel health, and the condition of your gums all play an important role in choosing the safest and most effective approach.

Staining can happen gradually over time from things like coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, certain foods, aging, and even some medications. While whitening can improve surface and deeper stains, healthy teeth and gums should always be the foundation before beginning any whitening routine. The best time to start bleaching your teeth is after you have your teeth cleaned. There, any extrinsic stain will be removed and set the stage for your best results.

On this page, you’ll find whitening options, sensitivity-friendly products, and supportive recommendations to help you safely brighten your smile while also protecting your enamel and overall oral health.

Note:  Depending on the whitening agent used, sensitivity may occur.  Be sure to start slow, and discontinue use if too much sensitivity happens. Lumineux whitening strips do get results without sensitivity, however; you may need to bleach more often to maintain results.

Recommendations for Whitening

If you are serious about wanting to whiten your teeth, I would start with a Sonicare or Oral-B Braun electric toothbrush. I have seen patients who were not brushing their teeth properly and then added an electric toothbrush. When used correctly, they noted their teeth looked whiter and brighter with that change alone.  After that, try some of these bleaching options linked below or reach out to your Dental office for their recommendations.
